It provides full nursing care under the supervision of Registered Nurses. The home is keen to respect residents’ privacy, rights, independence and freedom of choice as far as possible, taking into account their individual ability levels. In order that residents can live their lives at optimum capacity we ensure regular access to ancillary health professionals. Opticians visit regularly with an annual eye test being offered to each resident. We refer residents to the hospital when hearing aids are required and maintenance of aids is carried out on a regular basis. We have a referral system to the local dentist who is able to treat most problems in house.
We looked at infection prevention and control measures under the safe key question. We look at this in all care home inspections even if no concerns or risks have been identified. This is to provide assurance that the service can respond to COVID-19 and other infection outbreaks effectively.
About the service Cornford House is a residential care home providing accommodation and nursing and personal care for up to 70 people. The service is arranged across four floors with lift access to lower ground and upper floors. There were 20 people using the service at the time of our inspection. Cornford House also provides personal care for people living in their own homes, within the same accommodation. These people have a tenancy agreement and a separate agreement for their care provision.
Virus Testing We are testing for viral infection when symptoms present within our care setting. To test, monitor and allow residents to communicate with relatives, the prevalence of room-level connectivity within the home is becoming increasingly relevant. – the service is performing badly and we've taken enforcement action against the provider of the service. Birkin Lodge is a residential, nursing and dementia care home situated in the tranquil town of Tunbridge Wells, Kent. We have a dedicated team of care staff who go out of their way to ensure that our residents are comfortable... We have identified breaches in relation to person centred care and need for consent at this inspection.
The home accommodates both physically frail older people and also older people with dementia type illnesses, with each group living in separate areas within the building. Cornford House in Pembury, near Tunbridge Wells, is a purpose built supported living scheme for older people with nursing needs. Residents live in care suites which incorporate social space, a dining area and a kitchenette, while they can also spend time with other residents in the communal areas.

As a result, this inspection did not examine the circumstances of the incident. However, the information shared with CQC about the incident indicated potential concerns about the management of health and safety in the service. We had also received some concerns about the service in respect of physical abuse and poor care practices. We are mindful of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our regulatory function. We will continue to monitor the service and will take further action if needed. Medicines were managed safely, and people received them as prescribed. People were supported to eat and drink enough and told us the food was good in Cornford House. At the time of our inspection there was a registered manager in post.
